Basket Making with Andy Dobos

Join Artist and Naturalist Andy Dobos for an afternoon of bark basket making and expand your wilderness appreciation. 

About the Class:

As you work with Andy to create your bark basket, you will discover that tree bark proves to be an intriguing crafting material. Tree barks are pliable when wet and stiffen as they dry, and can be used to create both purposeful and artisanal pieces. Along with basket making, you will also learn some tree identification and natural history. 

Andy provides a safe space for his students, in which he supports their efforts and encourages them to take risks and try new things.

Please note that peeling bark may be strenuous on the body and hands. 

Tools and Materials are included as part of your participation fee.

About the Instructor:

Andy Dobos grew up in rural Connecticut in a family that prized self sufficiency and had a history of relying on the land to meet many basic needs. After a few false starts at other careers, Andy returned to his childhood dreams of learning wilderness skills. With help from his mentors, he gained a wealth of knowledge in these skills, particularly friction-fire making. Early into this newfound path, Andy discovered that sharing these skills was extremely important. With 20 years of teaching and mentoring in Nature connection to students of all ages, Andy is best known for supporting his students and teaching them to let go of the idea of failure. 

FEES: A sliding scale is available including a Pay What You Want option. All ticket tiers include all activities and supplies during the program. All are invited and encouraged to attend. No one turned away due to lack of funds.
